Favorite Blog Posts this Year

You guys! I am so excited to share your favorite Peplum & Pie blog posts from this year! These are the posts that got the most readers from 2018. This is the first time I've done a post like this but it's been so much fun reminiscing and really seeing how far my blog posts has changed and grown.

Without further ado... here we go!

My Favorite Outfits this Year

This year was the year of Peplums & Pie for me. There was more time and energy that was put into my blog this year than ever before. There were a lot of trials and errors and you can really see that through the photography. At the end of the day, I'm really happy with what I've learned and where I am with Peplums & Pie!

My style also changed a bit this year. Which is okay, I think everyone's fashion changes as time goes on. I've changed a lot this year, mentally, physically and I definitely have worked on finding myself this year. Due to that, my style has changed a bit. Some for the better and worse. I love this post simply because I'm able to reflect on what I've done, how far I've come and what I won't be doing in the future.

With that said, here are my favorite outfits this year! (Starting with...)

Perfect Holiday Red Lipsticks

Red Lipstick

As a lot of you know or have read through my instagram, I'm trying to write a blog post every single day until Christmas. I started on the 12th and have been doing really well! It's been a super fun goal and it's making think out side my normal creative process. However, tonight was tough. I stayed up really late the night before last finishing up my Holiday Gift Guide for Him. I didn't even think about what I was going to write until 10:30pm last night!

The photo above is what gave me the idea. I absolutely love pops of red in winter. Especially around snow. So, here are a few of my favorite reds for you to enjoy.

Holiday Gift Guide for Him

christmas gifts for him

Men, the hardest species to shop for... easily. Whether they're your brother, dad, father-in-law, hubby, yadda yadda ya, these guys are there for you through thick and thin. You're looking for the best gift they'll actually want this Christmas and this guide is here to help!

My dad is particularly hard to shop for. He's the worst but he has his staples. There are items he loves and always wants, and I know other dads will love/want them too. I drilled my brother this year for gift ideas. My sisters helped bug him everyday until he finally broke down. His answer was always "I don't know. I'm so easy to shop for!"... incorrect, sir. We finally wore him down and he made a mini wish list on Nordstrom. We also took inventory of things he needed at his apartment and noted what he could use.

So, without further ado, let's get to this Gift Guide!

My Velvet Holiday Party Dress

Holiday Party Dress

Anyone else still getting their Christmas shopping done? I'm almost done but I've got a few last minute gifts to pick up for two of my favorite families and their little nuggets. I get so excited shopping for gifts for kids. It's completely out of my norm to check out the kid section of a store. By far my favorite items I've wanted to pick up are a pair of mini Nikes for a 9 month old and a North Face lumberjack plaid coat for a 3 year old. That's a different kind of Holiday Party than the one I'm talking about today.

Luckily for me, while shopping for gifts, I stumbled upon this amazing velvet black dress...

Holiday Gift Guide for the Beauty Guru

Holiday Beauty Gift Guide

Hi Friends! If you can't tell, I'm super excited about this post. It's always my favorite Gift Guide to make. May I introduce you to this year's Holiday Gift Guide for the Beauty Guru 2019! Eeeeek! I have been looking forward to this guide all week because, not gonna lie, these are all things I either love or really really reallllllly want.

These products are gifts that I would recommend to any friend and family member. Some are high end, some are budget friendly. A good chunk of them are cruelty-free and/or vegan too. I try to find a variety of gifts for different types of people.

This is a longer post because I'm sending a shout out to 9 beauty gifts but it'll be worth the read, I promise.

Peanut Butter Toffee Cookies

Plate of Cookies

For the record, this is my first time making these cookies and I am using a cookbook to guide me along the way but I must say... they sure are tasty looking!

As you'll remember, one of my blog goals for the year is to incorporate a recipe once a month into my post schedules.  I'm determined to broaden my mind and grow as a baker! My sister also has a blog and her primary focus is on baking. As we know, I'm an a life and style blogger so my content fluctuates here and there but I hope you enjoy these kitchen adventures with me!

Seattle Holiday Events

Santa and Me

This has been one of the most festive Holiday seasons I've ever had. Maybe it's because I started working on our holiday marketing for work in October. Maybe it's because we had an endless summer. Maybe it's because my heart grew three sizes this year. Who truly knows but I am in it to win it, folks.

Here's are my Christmas recommendations to finish the Holiday season strong!

Champagne Tasting at Fat Cork

OOTD Fat Cork

What a super fun little event I was able to help host! This past weekend I had the privilege of working with Fat Cork and putting together a little Champagne Tasting for the non-profit I'm apart of. Wow-oh-wow was I blown away by how little I know about champagne! There are so many questions I got answered and a lot of general knowledge I received by simply attending.

Fat Cork is a darling little Champagne importer in our own little city. It's located right off of John St in lower queen anne/uptown area. It's not hard to find parking around it and it's super easy to get to if you know where it is. It's also, what I believe to be, one of Seattle's hidden gems!

Holiday Gift Guide for the Hostess

5 Holiday Gifts for the Hostess
I know my hostesses well enough to know that I shouldn't buy them anything for their home unless you know them on a deep deep deep level. I have a few general rules I follow when it comes to my friends and one of those rules is never buying them anything their their walls or to set out. Rule number two, I always get a gift receipt no matter what.

I'm not saying that hostesses are picky. On the contrary, I actually find them to be the most adaptable because they don't like to make people feel uncomfortable. Which is why I purposely get them something that won't make them uncomfortable or obligated.  Shall we chat gifts?

Must Watch Christmas Movies on Netflix

Love Peplum and Pie

My cousin and I are what my sister likes to call "Hallmark Queens" and she's not one to talk, neither is my mother. Haha. So yes! Our love for insanely sappy predictable cheesy rom-coms is a family trait but never-the-less, it's a trait we embrace. It's also something that brings us together, even if we're very far away.

Styled Seattle x Gossip Glamour Holiday Party 2018

Styled Seattle x Gossip Glamour Holiday Party

Okay guy, seriously - what a fun event! If you've been eyeing my instagram, you already know I attended the Styled Seattle x Gossip Glamour Holiday Party this past Tuesday night. Gossip & Glamours's Sydney Mintel was kind enough to add me to the guest list along with Seattle's fiercest stylists. She thought of everything. From the cookies and champagne to Saint Nick himself. Bravo to you, Sydney!

This event was exceptionally wonderful. I got to put a lot of faces from social media to faces in real life! It was refreshing and, honestly, we're all a lot shorter than I realized! Haha!

George Balanchine's The Nutcracker at the Pacific Northwest Ballet

PNB Nutcracker Outfit

What a fun, wholesome hearted evening, friends! Such a joy and privilege to be able to see George Balanchine's The Nutcracker last Saturday night. If you get the opportunity, you should definitely try to get your tickets while you can. I had the honor of hosting a group of ladies for the non-profit organization I am a part of in Seattle. Tickets are considerably more affordable if you decide to go in a group of 10 or more. The more people, the less per ticket. We were able to get a very special and exclusive backstage tour before the performance began. Going backstage was incredible but being able to make one little girl's dream come true was another. She not only met one but two of the ballerinas before the show began. Her face was lit up for the rest of the night!

How to Shop for a Winter Coat at a Thrift Store

How to Shop for a Winter Coat at a Thrift Store

Shopping for coats can not only be costly but exhausting. There are many different types of coats/jackets and finding a nice one for a good price can be daunting. Especially if you're on a budget. Which is why many of my coats from the thrift store.

Holiday Gift Guide for Stocking Stuffers

Gift Guide

Hi Friends! One of my favorite Holiday Gift Guides is coming in hot today for you. This guide is terrific not just for Stocking Stuffers but also for mini gifts to treat friends, co-workers or staff members. Personally, I'm grabbing a few of these for members of the non-profit I'm apart of. I know my favorite volunteers always need hair ties for when they're getting dirty or lotion to moisturize after wearing gloves all day. Check out my favorites below!

Favorite Pecan Pie

Pecan Pie

Hello Friends! I sincerely hope you had an amazing Thanksgiving and you were able to share it with family and/or friends. Thanksgiving is always a fun time for my family but this year I was having some stomach issues and was almost completely out of commission. I saved some strength for a quick pie and the main meal but I ended up coming home an entire day early and missing out on some awesome shopping opportunities in Portland due to some pain.

In short - please excuse the pictures. They're not my best work but it's what I could do with what I had. However, despite my pictures this recipe is amazing.

Holiday Gift Guide for the Traveler

Holiday Travel Gift Guide 2018
Hello friends, I hope you had an amazing Thanksgiving yesterday. I hope you were able to celebrate with friends and family. I truly hope you were able to make new memories with one another this year. I have a Thanksgiving post coming up. I wasn't able to work ahead this year due to other commitments from the non-profit I'm apart of and work. So, my pie recipe will have to wait til either Saturday or Sunday.

I'm reallllly excited to continue making these vision boards for you guys. When I make these, I tend to have a person in mind. For this one, this has my youngest sister, S, all over it. She's definitely our little traveller. She's been more places than me and is always up for a new and fun adventure. If that sounds like someone in your life, this is the post for you!

Travel Bug: Smoky San Francisco

Hyde Street Pier San Francisco

Good morning, Friends! I'm back from my San Francisco adventure with my friend. My darling friend who was kind enough to deal with every single photo I took on this trip. If it's one thing SF does right, it's curated and artistic.

As many of you know, and I think it's because of all of the celebrities affected this year, California is known in the PNW for fires. It's been a tragic last few years for them. This season more than any other before. It was so bad that the Bay Area was hit with sever toxic smoke and almost everyone was wearing a mask. It changed our trip from being very active to trying to stay inside as much as possible. So, our first day we ventured out to Hyde Pier and the remainder of the time we stayed out of the city and stuck to the clearly Bay side.

Pink Sweaters & Planner Kits

Well, I can't sleep so I'm up super late (or is it early?) working on this post because my mind won't shut down. So instead, I read three articles telling me to get out of bed and do something relaxing that will eventually tire yourself out. Apparently the worst thing you can do is lay in bed with your brain churning. Who knew.

To fair, this ties in nicely with this post. As many of you know, I've been pretty invested in my Erin Condren planner. There are some people who love their electronic calendars and agendas but I learned pretty early on that:

1) I'm not one of those people
2) I hate getting alerts on my phone
3) If I don't write it down, I'm gonna forget about it. Even with an alert.

If you're anything like me and love paper planners, here's how I accessorize my planner with the Planner Society's Box Sticker Kit every month to keep it fun and colorful...

An Easy Friendsgiving

Easy friendsgiving outfit, dress, booties, silk scarf, gold earrings, cheeseboard and crossbody
Guys! I was kindly invited to my first Friendsgiving this year! I'm so excited to meet new friends and keep the old. The number one thing on my mind is, surprisingly, not my wardrobe. It's my contribution! I've been on a recipe hunt for at least a week now. I'm in charge of a side dish and I can't decide between an easy garlic and green bean recipe or corn bread. I'm leaning more toward the green bean route. I'll let you know what I go with.

This outfit is exactly like the title: easy. That's the beauty of Friendsgiving in the PNW, it's a wonderful time to get together but it's not too fancy (unless it's on the invite). My invite was a group text so I know it's going to be a cozy night. More about eating and drinking wine than clothes. Which is totally fine in my book. Come December, I've already been invited to a few Holiday party and Christmasy events!

Baker Boy Hat & Starbucks Stops

What a great and relaxing weeekend! I hope each of you were able to enjoy and take full advantage of the time off before heading back into work. As many of you know (probably via IG), I was able to take a mental health day (MHD) on Friday and it was perfect. I did so much and I was able to focus on all of the things I truly wanted to do, not just the things I should do... which is how I carried my vibes into the weekend.

DIY Moisturizing Oatmeal & Honey Mask

face mask for acne

What a great mental health day yesterday, guys! I did everything I wanted to and had no guilt associated with it. Isn't that the best feeling?

This post is a fun little DIY for those who tend to have acne prone dry skin. This mask always helps moisturize and soften my face. This mask is great for any area of your skin that needs a little softening or exfoliation. For the recipe, check out below!

Fall Floral Dress & Baker Boy Cap

Fall Floral Dress & Bakers Cap, mini cooper ,, peplums & pie

Happy November!! Can you believe it? Good grief, I can't.

I hope you had an a very happy and safe All Hallows Eve. I went for a long walk and my neighborhood's costume battle was strong last night! Man-o-man, I saw some great outfits. The amount of creativity kids and parents put into their costumes this year was incredible! To be honest, the holiday really snuck up on me this year and we celebrated Halloween last week at work so I'm already full swing into the next two.

Plaid Skirt & Black Cashmere Top

Black Cashmere Sweater, Tweed plaid Skirt, Office Outfit

This is our first rainy Autumn weekend and, boy-o-boy, my sister and I learned something about photoshoots in the rain! First off, I'm a PNWer through and through. Despite the tiny, insignificant fact that I was born on the East Coast, I grew up on this coast. And that means one thing: I don't believe in umbrellas.

I know, silly, but the rain here is different from everywhere else. It's always raining here but our rain doesn't just coming down. Our rain comes at you side ways, down ways, upways and straight-at-your-face-ways! However... photoshoots will here on out require an umbrella because this crazy-curly-haired monster can't withstand 25 minutes in an outdoor shower.

Perfect Pumpkin Muffins

holding a pumpkin and a muffin

Best Pumpkin Muffin

Hello Friends and good morning! I woke up early this AM to get some chores done around the cottage and bake some muffins. Please excuse the no make up and workout gear. I'm having a "me day". A day where I listen to myself and do everything I want to do. Number one: Make Muffins!

This past Summer I did a reflection on how I've been running this blog. I sat myself down and wrote every goal, as well as establish what makes my little creative outlet "successful". One of my top goals is to work on the "Pie" portion of my creativity.

Since leaving Allrecipes (almost two years ago), I don't cook or bake nearly as much and it's something I miss. DEEPLY. I love creating recipes, tweaking old ones and ... let's be real, eating.

With all this said, it is officially my goal to get one, just ONE, recipe on the blog a month. Will this be a challenge I can accept? Oye, I hope so. One of my sisters recently started her own blog about baking. She's on a far greater spiritual journey with recipes than I am. I'm taking baby steps by posting what I'm already making. To be far, I've already written down November's recipe so I hope this is something you guys will enjoy as much as I'm enjoying writing about it.

May I now present: My Perfect Pumpkin Muffins.

Oatmeal Sweater & Baker Boy Hat

oversized fall sweater sitting on steps

Two times a year I have a full wardrobe swap. There are two bins in my closet that rotate twice a year. Once for Summer and once again for Winter. This is a technique I learned from my Mom growing up. It prevents be from over purchasing a new wardrobe every season. This way I can recycle from the previous year.

5 Fall Cozy Cashmere Sweaters

Oh Mondays, whyyyy? Why you gotta be so rude?

I feel like I start every Monday post out with angst. Which is why this post is all about the cozy, soft and comfy material that is cashmere. Something you can curl up in while at work or an afternoon without feeling "fireside frumpy".

Good Sport Grey Hoodie & Favorite Black Leather Jacket

front of outfit, side glance

Hello Friends! Anyone else a big walker? I love setting aside time to grab a girlfriend and walk around the lake, the sound or my own neighborhood. There's something so calming and therapeutic about walking through my city in the afternoon.

Grey Sweater & Black Pencil Skirt

Front Outfit Pic

How Fall professional is this outfit, guys? I'm in love with tucked in sweaters and I'm so happy I invested in this one a few years ago. This sweater is one of the only pieces of clothing I've ever paid full price for at Anthropologie. We all know, I'm a frugal gal but I knew if I bought this sweater, it would be my friend for a long long time. As you can see, it's back for another year...

Thrifted Red Leather Jacket & Blanket Scarf

front of outfit

There's nothing more that I love than a thrifted or secondhard leather jacket. First off, it gives something old a brand new life. Two, who doesn't love a gorgeous vintage jacket?

This jacket screams 1980s Michael Jackson. With it's bright vibrant color, mild shoulder pads and tiny front silver chain zip-pocket. I've spoken a lot about My Staple Black Leather Jacket. You've seen me wear it in a number of posts (I'll put some below for you crazy kids to enjoy). Even though my love is endless for that black zip up, this red guy has a special place in my heart.

Thrifted Blazer & Victorian Top

front of outfit

Another amazing thrift find, friends! I mean, check out this blazer. Love, right? This find was from a local Value Village that I frequent and it was less than $15. Which, is a bargain considering all I did was get it dry cleaned immediately after my purchase.

Cozy & Warm Fall Favorites 2018

Vision Board for Fall

It's been nothing but drizzling here, in our Seattle. The sunrise is later and the sunset is earlier. Soon, we'll be headed into "vampire season", as we affectionately call it. I've been working on this montage for a bit too long, primarily because I didn't know what to call it. At the end of the day I went with Warm & Cozy because that's the vibe I get from my vision picture above. However, it was inspired by a "staycation/me day" concept. Especially after adding that weekend sweater by Barefoot Dreams.

This would be a terrific day in, wouldn't it?

Travel Bug: 48 Hours in Coupeville, WA (Whidbey Island)

Walking on this Shore in Coupeville, WA

Last month, we took a family trip. Nothing but relaxation, family time, adventures in a small town and board game victories! We had agreed to take a long, well deserved, weekend out to Whidbey Island as Summer turned to Autumn. Whidbey is about an hour and a half just north of Seattle. It's an actual island and you can take one of the ferries there. Not taking the ferry results in an additional hour drive but to cross Deceptions Pass bridge is worth it. We, for the sake of time, took the ferry.

The Suzzallo Library & Marc Fisher OTK Boot

Standing on the stairwell

Happy second day of October, everyone! Can you believe it? October already! I swear we were just in July. We're at the University of Washington's library today and it feels like Hogwarts. I'm absolutely in love with the vibe it gives off. Of course, we had to be very quiet!

It's official, BTW, I'm completely gaga over burnt orange and rust this year. If you missed my rustic duster from last week, check that one out. It's slowly taking over my closet.

** Quick Note! Wearing my new ABH's lipstick (Spice) in this post! Mentioned in my Fall Beauty Favorites 2018 post.

Fall Beauty Favorites 2018

My Fall Beauty Favorites 2018 Collage

Hello from rainy, Virginia! This week I'm visiting my cousins and helping one of them nurse a recent surgery. Getting us through this downpour and the chill in the air? Jack Ryan and getting alerts from Nordstrom that my beauty packages have finally arrived at my home in Seattle.

As you guys know, my favorite lists to make for my blog are the ones about beauty. I'm excited to share these ones with you because 95% are cruelty-free and excellent for Fall. Shall we begin?

Ruched Black Dress & Fall Duster

Fall Duster Outfit

"Autumn: The season that teaches us that changes can be beautiful."

Browns, burnt oranges, velvet! A few words to associate fall fashion this year. This duster has a little drama to it. It's something that reminds me of being in a film or have magic powers, when I'm wearing it. Something that gives an extra "umph" to the outfit. It's easy to wear and pairs easily. Even with jeans and a tank.

First Day of Autumn & Apple Picking

holding an apple in the apple orchard

Summer has officially sunset and Autumn is in full rotation! I plunged in, friends. Do you remember last year when I tried very hard to have an Adventure in Apple Picking? But the U-Pick was closed for the season. Well, I learned my lesson and I followed my own advice. I reached out to the farm 2 weeks ago to find their opening date. Guess what today was! That day!

Book Review: Chapter One (End of Summer)

Reading on the porch swing

During my recent trip out to Whidbey Island I was able to finish my summer reading list! Summers used to be a lot earlier to sit and readd. I used to have a lot more down time but since I started my job, last year, this time of year is increasingly harder to stay up and read. In short, this list is small. Over the winter, I want to read two books a month!

I've decided to start a book review series on this blog. Reason one, to keep me honest but also to keep a record for myself. In the past I started this idea, but only reviewed one book. As you can see from my previous post, I had every intention of reading a book a month and that didn't happen. This time, I've got them written in my calendar, in hopes that it'll keep me on track!

To start, I want to say that I'm a huge library supporter. If I don't get my books from the library, I try to get them at either a thrift store or borrow them from a friend. It's not that I don't believe in buying books, I definitely do! I will buy them every so often, sometimes even after I've read it and loved it.

Let's begin. Shall we?

Coupeville, WA & Original Hunter Boots

Walking the Puget Sound in Coupeville, WA
Off to a bit of a slow start today. I'm working, in real time, to get this post live for you guys. Normally I try to work a head but I'm a blogger with a full time job, that isn't blogging, so it gets squished between yoga, junior league and meet ups sometimes. Blogging is my creative outlet and this post is one of the reasons I love to do it.

My family used to take summer trips all the time. In fact, growing up, we didn't have a lot of extra money. Our family trips involved us stuffing clothes into an over night bag and packing up the ol' suburban for a long drive. Sometimes knowing the destination, sometimes spitting out ideas in the car. We'd pack our discmans and a pile of books, comic books and coloring books. It was normally in the early morning when we were forced to get up but those are the trips I remember the most. They're some of our favorite adventures!

We're all grown now. None of us kids have children or significant others, at the moment. This summer came and went quickly and it was near impossible to plan a trip but we found one weekend we could all get off so we jumped at it. Destination? Coupeville, Wa!

Shoulder Bow Jumpsuit & French Style Scarf

Julia Jordan Shoulder Bow Jumpsuit Scarf

Welcome to Queen Anne Hill, not Paris. Shocked? The location for our photoshoot was chosen because I have an unnatural obsession with Queen Anne's many and legendary staircases. Exploring Seattle has become a hobby this year. Walking every street in my neighborhood and a few sectors over is my personal challenge. This staircase is attached to the Wilcox wall which was built between 1913 and 1915. Not as old as Paris but regardless, this beautiful wall has seen a lot. Including my latest jumpsuit obsession!
